The Seattle Seahawks are preparing for their Super Bowl defense in 2026. Before the season, Seattle paid one of the pillars of that championship team. Devon Witherspoon signed a massive contract extension with the Seahawks prior to Week 1 of the 2026 season.

Witherspoon has emerged as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. He was a dominant presence in the secondary for the Seahawks last season. Veteran safety Julian Love recently opened up about what it is that makes Witherspoon a special player.

“Spoon is just always flying to the ball. You see the big name, highly touted guys. It's like a flash in the pan, make a big play, going through the motions. Spoon is 100% every single play, every practice, every game. That's what's special,” Love told NFL insider Jordan Schultz in an exclusive interview.

Witherspoon was a force in 2025. He recorded 48 total tackles with seven passes defended and an interception in the regular season. In the playoffs, he added 17 tackles, a sack, and four passes defended to aid Seattle's Super Bowl run.

The Seahawks took down the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX back in February. It is the second championship in franchise history. The first Lombardi Trophy came in 2013 when they took down Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

When Seattle won their first ring, it followed it up with an immediate trip back to the Super Bowl in 2014. Witherspoon and his teammates are certainly hoping they can head back to the Super Bowl this season. If he remains the dominant corner that he is, the Seahawks are a good bet to repeat as champions in 2026.
