Liverpool have endured an inconsistent opening to the season, but transfer deadline day presents a vital opportunity to strengthen the squad and put their early setbacks behind them.

The Reds kicked off their Premier League campaign by sharing the spoils in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United on the opening weekend.

This was quickly followed by another 2-2 stalemate at Anfield against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Time is now running out for the club to secure reinforcements, as the summer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday.

Andoni Iraola has been handed a welcome boost with the capture of Bradley Barcola, whose move from PSG was completed on Monday. Nevertheless, the squad still lacks depth on the right flank and in midfield.

While they are not anticipated to sign every player on their radar before the deadline, Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr remains a priority target.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have taken encouraging steps to safeguard their wide positions by capturing the signature of a promising young talent, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Sarr update

Palace is reportedly standing firm in their resolve to keep hold of Sarr this summer, despite Liverpool's pursuit. The Reds had a $68 million (£50million) bid rejected for the Senegal international last week, but remain in pursuit of the right-winger.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Eagles have so far knocked back further approaches from Liverpool, but are exploring options in the market should a deal be reached. Palace are also reported to be demanding $102M (£75m) for their prized asset, with Foot Mercato indicating that Liverpool remain resolute in their bid to secure the winger's signature.

The chase for Sarr comes after the Reds had two bids rejected for Yankuba Minteh earlier this month. While it is thought the club have turned their attention elsewhere, a deal could still be resurrected if Brighton lower their valuation from $108M (£80m).

Sources close to the player on Sunday suggested talks were set to resume between the two clubs in an effort to finalise an agreement late in the window. Minteh is understood to have his heart firmly set on a move to Merseyside.

Winger agrees move

Djylian N'Guessan is set to join Liverpool next summer after the Reds struck an agreement with his club, Saint-Etienne. The 18 year old had previously been linked with Chelsea, but his future now appears destined to take him to Merseyside following the Reds' agreement to sign the French U20 international.

The promising winger made his professional debut at just 16 years of age and has so far featured in 11 matches for the senior side. The Reds are completing the signing of the 18-year-old, having settled on an initial fee in a transaction worth roughly $5.8M (£4.25m).

Should the deal go through, N'Guessan, who has 12 months left on his current deal, would stay with the Ligue 2 side for the remainder of this campaign.
