Sunderland are closing in on the signing of Kevin Danso as part of a deadline day transfer chain involving Tottenham and Chelsea.

An agreement is now in place for the Black Cats to sign the 27-year-old Austria international on loan with an option to buy. Danso has agreed personal terms, a medical has been booked, and the expectation is that the move will go through once Tottenham complete their own defensive business.
That replacement is set to be Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo. Tottenham have agreed a permanent deal worth £7million plus add-ons for the 28-year-old, with personal terms also settled. Reports indicate Tosin has been given permission to undergo his medical ahead of becoming Roberto De Zerbi's latest addition.
Danso's move to Wearside has effectively been waiting for Spurs to secure that replacement. Sunderland originally tried to sign the defender on a straightforward loan, but Tottenham rejected the approach before talks reopened around a different structure.

Spurs paid around £21million to sign Danso permanently from Lens following an initial loan spell, but he has since fallen down the defensive pecking order and told De Zerbi that he wanted to leave. Personal terms with Sunderland have been agreed, and reports on Monday said the defender was waiting for permission to complete his medical. The Tottenham and Chelsea negotiations extend beyond Tosin. Spurs have also agreed a paid loan for Mykhailo Mudryk, who was another attacking option considered by Sunderland during the closing stages of the window.
The Ukraine international is set to reunite with De Zerbi, having previously worked with him at Shakhtar Donetsk. Reports say the agreement includes a non-mandatory purchase option worth £75million, with the deal moving towards completion after the clubs reached terms. Chelsea originally paid up to £88.5million to sign Mudryk from Shakhtar in 2023. That leaves three interconnected moves approaching the finish line. Tosin's arrival gives Tottenham the cover required to release Danso, while Chelsea are simultaneously sending Mudryk across London.
