Arsenal have come to an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the loan signing of Ethan Nwaneri. It's understood the academy graduate will move to the Bundesliga in a straightforward loan with the German heavyweights paying a package worth around £4.28million.

This will include Dortmund taking over his salary and forking out for a loan fee, according to Sky Sports Germany. Nwaneri spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, but it proved to be a difficult experience.

He only made 11 appearances in all competitions for the French side, contributing two goals and one assist. Despite his disappointing campaign across the Channel, football.london understands the Gunners were keen for him to go on loan this summer and were not looking to sell him.

The club were also enthusiastic about him joining Dortmund as the Englishman will be able to experience playing in the Champions League, something he missed out on last season after Marseille were knocked out of the competition in the group stages unexpectedly.

Nwaneri had been linked with Turkish side Galatasaray and AC Milan, but a move to either side did not transpire. The 19-year-old impressed in pre-season with his performances and garnered praised from Mikel Arteta after the friendly fixture against Como.

At the time, Arteta said: "He's been really good. Probably what happened on the field, on his loan in Marseille, wasn't what was expected.

"There was a lot of noise and change around the club. But he looks different. He looks more mature. He's incredible at that. It's what six months can do to you.

"It's a different experience on board to be on your own, to go through tough times and just to witness that there's another part of football that you have to be good enough to cope with. I'm very happy with what he's done in pre-season."

Arteta had also previously said he wanted Nwaneri to remain at the Emirates Stadium, but also stated the youngster needs regular minutes.

Nwaneri has 51 Arsenal appearances to his name, with the bulk coming in the 2024-25 campaign. He made 37 appearances that season, contributing nine goals and two assists for the north Londoners.

With Noni Madueke arriving from Chelsea the following summer, Nwaneri only made 12 appearances in all competitions the following year, before being loaned to Marseille last January.
