Everton are closing in on the signing of Folarin Balogun after agreeing personal terms with the Monaco striker ahead of a Deadline Day medical.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Everton have agreed a four-year contract with Balogun, which also includes the option of a further season.
The agreement between the clubs is worth €45million plus another €5m in add-ons, with Monaco also securing a sell-on clause.
Balogun has been authorised to travel for his medical on Tuesday, with Romano giving the deal his familiar “here we go”.
Barring a late problem, Everton therefore look set to land the striker David Moyes has been seeking before the window closes.
Balogun arrival would soften Ndiaye blow
The timing is particularly significant given Iliman Ndiaye’s expected £65m move to Man City.
Losing Ndiaye removes one of Everton’s most dangerous attacking players, but Balogun would give Moyes a different type of threat and another established option through the middle.
The 25-year-old United States international came through Arsenal’s academy before establishing himself during an excellent loan spell with Reims in 2022/23, when he scored 21 Ligue 1 goals.
That form earned him a permanent move to Monaco in 2023, and Balogun enjoyed a productive campaign last season, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances.
There were encouraging signs in the second half of the campaign in particular, with Balogun scoring nine times in his final 12 league appearances.
The deal represents a substantial investment from Everton.
At up to €50m, they are committing significant money to a striker they will hope can become a long-term part of their attack.
There is still a medical to negotiate, and the deal has not yet been formally completed, but the big pieces of the puzzle are now in place.
On a Deadline Day when Everton are preparing to lose Ndiaye but bring Jack Grealish back to the club, Balogun looks almost certain to become another major part of Moyes’ reshaped attack.
