Liverpool transfer news as deadline day move for£80m attacker still possible

**With just over 12 hours to go for the summer transfer window to slam shut, Liverpool remain in a rather strange position.**

They have made four summer signings, with Bradley Barcola the headline arrival from PSG.

However, they still have a few holes to fill and remain on the lookout for reinforcements if market opportunities arise.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Yankuba Minteh, but with Cody Gakpo now set to remain at Anfield, it appeared as if the link had gone cold.

But now, Ben Jacobs reports that a move for the Gambian is not completely dead in the water before the transfer deadline.

Speaking on the Anfield Index podcast, Jacobs claimed a move for the 22-year-old Brighton winger could be revisited today despite Liverpool’s decision to retain Gakpo.

He said via YouTube, “Cody Gakpo is staying at Liverpool, but Yankuba Minteh’s representatives are still seeking a move to LFC, and they hope it happens today.”

Minteh is a player Liverpool have long admired, and having a left-footed right-sided player will add some much-needed variety to their attack.

Additionally, the 22-year-old’s underlying numbers since moving to Brighton look really good and scalable, so there is enough evidence to suggest he would thrive with better players around him.

However, he is currently injured and is valued at around £80m by the Seagulls, so a sale before the transfer deadline looks extremely unlikely.
