Chelsea appear to be closing in on the signing of their potential Enzo Fernandez replacement.

Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea before the transfer window closes, and it looks like the 25-year-old could get his move.

Fernandez’s people are confident that he will join Manchester City, but Chelsea have always wanted a replacement before selling the midfielder.

That midfielder could be AS Roma star Manu Kone, who seems to be right at the top of their list right now.

On Monday morning, it was claimed that Chelsea have contacted Roma to sign Kone before Tuesday night’s deadline.

According to FootballTransfers, Chelsea have also agreed personal terms with Kone, who is a “top target” for them, as they try to wrap up a deal.

Xabi Alonso could really do with Kone right now after using Malo Gusto in midfield over the weekend. The new Chelsea manager was obviously without Fernandez, while substitute Moises Caicedo was taken off not too long after his introduction because of an injury.

The good news for Alonso is that Romeo Lavia has managed to stay fit. The Belgian even managed to score in the Brighton win.

However, it is quite clear that Chelsea need another midfielder, especially if Fernandez joins City, which is now starting to look like an inevitability.
