Harvey Elliott will not have a chance to carve out a role at Liverpool, after a deal was agreed to send the 23-year-old to Valencia on a season-long loan.
Andoni Iraola admitted he preferred different options after leaving Elliott out of his matchday squad for the first two games of the season, with the club instead fielding offers from Spain and Italy.
While Serie A sides Napoli and Lazio were among those interested, Valencia were the club to reach an agreement with Liverpool and Elliott.

The attacking midfielder spoke to reporters after landing in Valencia on Monday evening and confirmed his move to La Mestalla.
“It happened quite quick,” Elliott admitted.
“I was just ready for the call, so it was just making sure that I’m ready to come here and play – which I am.”
His switch to Valencia is a straight loan and will be formally announced after his medical on Tuesday.

Elliott’s loan does not end his Liverpool career, as This Is Anfield understands he remains contracted until 2028, meaning his future will again be considered next summer.
It is a second successive summer move for Elliott, after he expressed a desire for regular football last year only to be immediately cast aside at Aston Villa.
He played just 284 minutes across the entire 2025/26 campaign, leading to a return to Liverpool after Unai Emery avoided triggering a £35 million buy clause.
Despite hopes he could return and play a valuable squad role for the Reds, Elliott was left out of the first two matchday squads as Iraola turned elsewhere to bolster his bench.

Valencia finished ninth in LaLiga last season, and are currently winless and 16th after the first two games this season.
Carlos Corberan, who learned under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, is Valencia’s manager and has grown accustomed to making his teams greater than the sum of their parts after tight budgets at West Brom and Huddersfield.
The hope will be that Elliott can become an important player this season as he bids to get the game time he craves in a senior environment after a year wasted on the sidelines.
