Everton and Liverpool are among the clubs keen on signing VfB Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling on deadline day.
The Toffees have already shown an interest in the winger. At the end of last season, Sport Witness covered a report from Germany explaining Everton’s concrete desire to secure his services.
Fast forward to August and Liverpool have now joined the battle with their local rivals in the transfer race.
Everton and Liverpool suitors
That’s according to Sky Deutschland, who mentions the Premier League duo’s interest when covering the latest about AS Roma.
Last season, the Germany international starred for the Bundesliga side, scoring 11 goals and contributing 12 assists from 50 matches. He operated mainly on the left wing even though his preferred role is on the right wing.
This has seen him attract ‘strong interest’ from a few clubs, and Sky mentions Everton, Liverpool and the Giallorossi.
VfB Stuttgart haven’t entertained the Serie A side’s offer of loan with an obligation to buy. Therefore, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have returned with a new offer of €30m plus €5m bonuses.
The two clubs haven’t reached an agreement yet, while Jamie Leweling is also attracting interest from the Merseyside clubs. He hasn’t decided yet on his future amid firm interest from several clubs.
Everton take action on Monday
Another report from Sky Deutschland covers more updates about David Moyes’ side and makes no mention of Liverpool.
On Monday evening, the Toffees submitted a concrete proposal for the 25-year-old. This comes after AS Roma tabled an improved bid.
Sky doesn’t specify the fee or the formula offered by Everton. It may not matter because Jamie Leweling will continue with the German club unless there’s a last-minute surprising development.
He has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €40m. This puts Stuttgart in a comfortable position to keep him, despite late attempts from Everton and Roma.
