**Nathan Patterson is set to leave Everton for Torino after the two clubs agreed a permanent Deadline Day transfer for the Scotland international.**
The 24-year-old is already in Turin and is due to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Serie A club.
According to Sky Sport Italia reporter Luca Bendoni, [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) will receive an initial fee of just €1m but have negotiated a sizeable 30 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Patterson has agreed a three-year contract with Torino running until June 2029.
The relatively small initial fee will inevitably catch the eye.
Everton signed Patterson from Rangers in January 2022 for a substantial fee, with the Scotland international arriving on Merseyside as one of his country’s most highly-rated young players.
It never quite worked out as hoped.
Injuries repeatedly interrupted Patterson’s progress and he was unable to establish himself as Everton’s first-choice right-back under a succession of managers.
He has also entered the final year of his contract, which is due to expire next summer.
That provides some context to the unusual structure of the Torino deal.
Rather than receiving a significant fee now, Everton have retained a sizeable interest in any future transfer should Patterson rebuild his career in Italy and eventually move on.
At 24, there is still plenty of time for that to happen.
Patterson’s departure will reduce David Moyes’ options at right-back, a position Everton have been looking to strengthen throughout the summer.
For the player, meanwhile, Serie A offers the chance of a fresh start after four-and-a-half years on Merseyside in which injuries prevented him from ever really building sustained momentum.
The €1m fee may look surprisingly low, but that 30 per cent sell-on clause could yet prove an important part of the deal for Everton.
