Everton’s Kenny Tete move hits late problem despite deal being agreed

Everton’s move for Kenny Tete has reportedly hit a late complication despite the Toffees agreeing a deal with Fulham for the right-back.

TEAMtalk reports that Everton and Fulham have agreed terms on a transfer worth just under £10m, with a medical already booked for the 30-year-old.

The problem is at the Fulham end.

The Cottagers want to sign Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Rațiu as Tete’s replacement but have encountered difficulties getting that deal over the line.

Fulham have reportedly offered €25m for the Romania international, matching his release clause, but want to structure the payment in instalments.

Rayo are resisting that proposal and want the clause paid in full.

Tete deal now hinges on Fulham replacement

It leaves Everton in a frustrating position with the clock ticking towards Tuesday night’s deadline.

The Toffees had already agreed personal terms with Tete before the two clubs reached an agreement over the transfer.

But Fulham understandably do not want to lose their right-back without having a replacement ready to come in.

That has left Tete’s move effectively waiting on events in Spain.

The situation has become more important for David Moyes following Nathan Patterson’s impending permanent move to Torino.

Patterson is in Italy to complete his transfer, leaving Everton with an even greater need to strengthen at right-back before the window closes.

Tete has been at Fulham since joining from Lyon in 2020 and would bring six years of Premier League experience to Moyes’ squad.

Everton appear to have done much of their part.

Personal terms are reportedly agreed, a deal with Fulham is said to be in place and a medical has been booked.

But until Fulham can find a way through the Rațiu problem, Tete’s move to Everton remains in the balance.
