Nine NFL Hall of Famers join Bassmaster Elite anglers for inaugural Randy Moss Pro-Am

CLAYTON, New York (WWNY) - The inaugural Bassmaster Randy Moss Pro-Am presented by Lippert took place Monday morning, departing from Clayton Harbor Municipal Marina. Nine NFL Hall of Famers teamed up with some of the best anglers on the Bassmaster Elite Series.

Randy Moss said bringing together fishing and football seemed like a natural fit.

“Just teaming up with Bass and having a relationship with them over the years of just competing in their celebrity pro-am. Being a part of the Hall of Fame with my Hall of Fame brothers it was just more of we were looking...or the Hall of Fame was looking for another event. I thought this was just something that was great, something to get outdoors. You know I’m an outdoorsman as you know. Just trying to get my Hall of Fame brothers this experience,” Moss said.

Moss was joined by fellow Hall of Famers Calvin Johnson, Kellen Winslow, Kevin Mawae, Ronde Barber, Rickey Jackson, Joe Thomas, Dave Robinson and Robert Brazile.

Competitiveness carries over from the field

The level of competitiveness was the same for these players on the water as it was on the gridiron.

“I don’t think anybody’s too confident. Not a lot of guys have been out here bass fishing specifically except for Randy. The confidence that he exudes, it comes from a place of experience. You can tell,” Calvin Johnson said.

“I mean, for it to be my first annual and these guys are not really familiar with bass fishing, I mean if I don’t win it then what am I really doing,” Moss said.

Moss said he hopes to make this an annual event and continue the partnership between the NFL Hall of Fame and Bassmaster.
