**[Everton](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton/) have seen a deadline day bid to sign Jordan Teze from Monaco rejected by the Ligue 1 club.**
[Nice Matin report](https://www.nicematin.com/sports/football/sur-les-tablettes-d-everton-jordan-teze-devrait-bien-rester-a-l-as-monaco-10715697) that Everton were interested in the Dutch defender, seeking a late loan move for the 26-year-old.
The newspaper reports that despite interest from the Toffees, Teze is unlikely to leave Monaco before the transfer window closes at 11pm.
**Everton tried loan deal**
---------------------------
Nice-Matin states that their information is that Everton expressed an interest in signing Teze on Tuesday. He has only played 35 minutes for the Ligue 1 club this season. That had opened the door to a potential exit.
Everton had hopes to secured him on loan as they look to solve their need for a new right-back before the window closes.
However, Monaco – and General Manager Thiago Scuro in particular – vetoed the move. Monaco don’t’ want to loan out a versatile player who could play a key role this season. This is especially the case as Thilo Kehrer is set to join Ajax.
Although manager Filipe Luis is currently favouring Vanderson, that is largely due to Teze’s fitness situation. He is not at 100% at this moment in time and the club have decided not to take any risks. But they want the Dutchman long-term and have blocked Everton’s loan attempts.
**Maitland-Niles pivot**
------------------------
That rejection has seemingly caused Everton to pivot and focus on Lyon’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles instead.
Reports in both England and France have made it clear that a €5m deal for the former Arsenal man is now progressing.
Indeed, Sport Witness covered a report stating that the full-back has been handed approval to fly to England for a medical.
He now appears to be Everton’s number one target, ahead of the likes of Fulham’s Kenny Tete. But that might have come after their attempts to sign Jordan Teze on loan were blocked.
