The midfielder's future remains up in the air with just hours of the window to go.

Enzo Fernandez's proposed move to Manchester City is reportedly in doubt after Chelsea rejected a bid from their Premier League rivals. The Argentine has been one of City's top targets for the majority of the summer, as they look to rebuild their midfield following the departures of Rodri and Bernardo Silva.
Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi have already joined for the sum of £200million, but City are still pushing hard to add a third midfield addition in the form of Fernandez. With time ticking until the transfer window slams shut, it's suggested City have made an offer to the west Londoners, but that is said to have been knocked back.

That's according to talkSPORT, who report the opening offer was around £120m, which was the original price Chelsea had demanded earlier in the window when they informed City about a deadline. That cut-off came and went, with City opting not to submit a bid, but the Blues are now being told they'll have to stump up more cash if they want to land Fernandez before tonight's deadline.
However, in a further development, it would appear a deal has been struck, with L'Equipe reporting a transfer fee has finally been agreed between City and Chelsea. The French outlet claims a fee has been settled, paving the way for Fernandez to join City.
Other reports had claimed Chelsea aren't willing to sanction Fernandez's exit until they are certain about adding at least one midfield signing. Lamine Camara and Manu Kone are the names being mentioned as potential incomings for the two-time European champions, with reports that an opening bid for the former has already been rejected by Monaco.
Meanwhile, it's been mooted that Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Kone, which could involve winger Jamie Gittens going in the opposite direction on a season-long loan. That's despite the Roma manager rubishing talk of a deadline day exit for midfielder Kone.

Gian Piero Gasperini was quizzed about the Frenchman's future after Roma's win over Lecce. The ex-Atalanta manager remarked: “Absolutely not, it is a media thing, I know nothing about it. I know the owners too do not want to sell. I don’t know who approached us, but we have not received any formal offers for him.”
It's been a busy summer at Chelsea, with Xabi Alonso having been keen to cut the squad down to a manageable level. When asked about how he thinks the window has gone so far, the Spanish coach replied: "We are quite close to the plan we had. We will see where we finish, whether it is fully executed or whether there are still things to be done, or things we could not do."
Adding: "I don't have a number, I have an idea [on squad size]. We will be close to that. Hopefully, all of them will feel involved. We are all in the same boat and everyone is pulling in the same direction."
