Richarlison Everton return now unlikely as Deadline Day stance emerges

Richarlison is now unlikely to make a Deadline Day return to Everton, with the Toffees not expecting to re-sign their former forward barring a dramatic late change.

Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold reports that, as things stand, Everton are not expecting Richarlison to return to Hill Dickinson Stadium before Tuesday night’s deadline.

Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers has gone further, reporting from Finch Farm that Richarlison will not be coming back to Everton.

It looks increasingly likely, then, that one of the summer’s longest-running transfer stories is coming to an end.

Richarlison return looks increasingly unlikely

Richarlison’s future has been the subject of considerable speculation throughout the window.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed at the weekend that the Brazilian had repeatedly expressed a desire to leave the club, while Richarlison subsequently made his feelings clear in a lengthy social media statement.

He also spoke openly about the possibility of returning to Everton, describing the Toffees as his “beloved club”.

But Everton’s Deadline Day business now appears to be heading in a different direction.

Folarin Balogun is set to undergo a medical ahead of a permanent move from Monaco, while Jack Grealish is also expected to return on loan from Man City.

Those moves would significantly reshape David Moyes’ attacking options following Iliman Ndiaye’s expected departure for City.

Richarlison scored 53 goals in 152 appearances during his four years with Everton before joining Tottenham in 2022 and remains hugely popular with many supporters.

That made the prospect of a return one of the more intriguing stories of the summer.

For now, though, it looks unlikely to happen.

Gold has left open the possibility of a last-gasp change before the deadline, but with Everton progressing with Balogun and Grealish, the chances of Richarlison returning appear to be fading fast.
