City Football Group had a €10m (£8.6m) bid “rejected” for Nantes defender Tylel Tati, according to RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins.
The journalist is very reliable when it comes to transfers involving French teams, and he reports that the offer fell well short of Nantes’ valuation.
It is believed that Chelsea tabled a €30m (£26m) bid for Tati at the start of this year, but his club have been relegated to Ligue Two since then.
Even so, Nantes have no intention of letting one of their brightest young prospects leave for such a discounted price, and Man City are not expected to match what Chelsea offered for the player 6 months ago. He wouldn’t have moved to the Etihad directly anyway, with City Football Group stablemate Troyes being the ones who would have secured his signature initially.
What do fans need to know about Tati?
The defender came through the famed Clairfontaine academy prior to joining Nantes. He made his senior debut against Paris Saint-Germain during a 1–0 defeat in August last year.
Tati has gone on to make 23 first-team appearances, including 2 so far this season. He is a 6ft 3 centre-half who can play left-back if needed. The France youth international only turns 19 in January.

Man City have plenty of centre-backs on the books
Head coach Enzo Maresca can already call upon the likes of Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi, Abdulkodir Khusanov and Josko Gvardiol as options in the middle of defence.
Vitor Reis is also part of the first-team squad, having returned from a good loan spell at another City Football Group team, Girona, earlier this summer. The 20-year-old came off the bench for the final few minutes of the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace last Friday.
