Beto has now left Everton to join Fiorentina on a permanent basis. The player has been backed to succeed by one of his former managers.
The Toffees had paid around £26m to sign the striker from Udinese in 2023. During his three-year spell in Merseyside, he could never quite impress on a consistent basis.
He played 113 times in all competitions, scoring 25 goals. In the 2025/26 campaign, he only showed glimpses of his quality, finding the net nine times in the Premier League.
Sport Witness closely covered his move to Florence and he has now been backed to succeed.
Gotti has high praise
Former Udinese manager Luca Gotti, who saw the Guinea-Bissau international from up close at the Friulian side, has opened up about the transfer.
He spoke to Sky Italia – via LaViola, making it clear that Beto has the right mentality to turn his career around.
When talking about the Everton spell, he said: “When he went to Everton, the fans turned up their noses in the first year, but then season after season they learned to appreciate his commitment. He works so hard for the team and is an extremely useful player. I think Fiorentina made an excellent acquisition.”
Gotti added insight into the striker’s personality, revealing that he has the drive to always push for better.
“At 18, I think he was still working as a waiter, but he has a huge desire to improve. I think this is his greatest quality, an infinite desire to grow. He came to the pitch every day with this idea of getting better.”
Beyond that, the Italian said: “If you call him two hours before training, or keep him two hours after to take care of a detail and have him work on a single thing, he does it very willingly. This characteristic helps him improve a lot.”
Chance at redemption
At Fiorentina, the 28-year-old will be a regular starter, as he has replaced Moise Kean. While La Viola have lost their first two games, things can soon change.
Beto is expected to be the centre of the project. That is exactly what he needed after Everton. At Udinese, he thrived alongside a pacy dribbler like Gerard Deulofeu. Fiorentina have both Alieu Njie and Wilfried Gnonto, who can help Beto do well.
