Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke believes Arsenal would become overwhelming favourites to retain the Premier League title if they complete a late deal for Victor Osimhen before the transfer deadline.
Mikel Arteta’s side have made an excellent start to their title defence, securing victories over Coventry City and Aston Villa to move onto six points from their opening two matches. Arsenal won the league by seven points last season, ending a two-decade wait for the Premier League trophy.
However, Yorke believes the addition of Osimhen could take the reigning champions to another level.
Speaking to Reviant, the former Manchester United striker claimed that signing the Nigerian would “really cement” ARSENAL as title favourites and suggested they could potentially run away with the competition
‘Victor Osimhen to Arsenal would be huge,’ Yorke told Reviant. ‘That would really cement them as favourites.
‘I was actually looking at some clips today and he’s all action, isn’t he? All arms and legs, a little bit unorthodox, but he gets the job done.
‘He’s not the most elegant player you will ever see, but you will find him very awkward to play against. He’ll be a bit of a nightmare for these defenders because he’s a little bit old-fashioned in that sense.
‘He’s six-foot, he’s lanky, he’s decent in the air, he takes his opportunities, and he works hard. As a centre-forward, if you have those attributes, defenders are not going to look forward to playing against him.
‘If that were to happen, then I would say Arsenal would definitely run away with it.’
Arsenal’s summer recruitment has already strengthened their squad considerably, but Yorke believes Osimhen could be the final piece of the puzzle.
Whether ARSENAL can complete such a major deal before the deadline remains uncertain, with Osimhen currently contracted to Galatasaray.
For now, Arteta’s side remain in a strong position at the top of the early title race. But according to Yorke, adding Osimhen could transform the champions from favourites into a team capable of dominating the Premier League once again.
