The belief was that Chelsea were not going to replace Enzo Fernandez this summer, however there has been murmurs of the club making a late move for a new midfielder.
Manchester City played the long game with the Blues and eventually secured a £125m deal to sign Fernandez, who made it clear he wanted out of the club.
With the deal taking place late on deadline day, there is very little time for Chelsea to sign a replacement, despite being linked with up to eight options.

Chelsea fans will go into the rest of the season very worried if they do not sign another midfielder, however as per Simon Phillips the Blues have a ‘slight chance’ at making a last-minute move for Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga.
The Frenchman has been mentioned as a transfer target on a number of occasions, with The Chelsea Chronicle exclusively reporting that Xabi Alonso had been in contact with the midfielder directly.

The boss did temporarily work with Camavinga during his time at Madrid, however this relationship did not last long before he was sacked.
The Blues have already missed out on top targets Adam Wharton and Alex Scott this summer, with their clubs unwilling to part ways with their best players this late in the window.

With just three hours to go, Chelsea will need to make a decision soon and skip a lot of the usual negotiation tactics when it comes to agreeing a fee.
Jose Mourinho is the current Madrid manager, and has been keen to use the midfielder during the early stages of the La Liga season.
It is going to take a serious bid for the Blues to get him away from the Bernabeu today, however they have just banked an extortionate amount of money for the sale of Fernandez.
