Done deal: Borussia Dortmund loan in Super Eagles target from Arsenal

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri on loan, handing the Nigeria-eligible youngster another opportunity to continue his development away from the Premier League.

In a statement on their official website on Tuesday, Dortmund confirmed that Nwaneri has joined the Bundesliga club on loan from Arsenal until the end of the 2026/27 season.

The move comes after Dortmund lost Giannis Konstantelias to a serious knee injury.

Nwaneri spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Marseille after struggling for regular playing time at Arsenal.

He made 11 appearances for the French club and scored twice before returning to the Gunners in June.

His latest move represents his second consecutive loan spell and could provide him with another platform to gain valuable first-team experience at one of Germany's leading clubs.

Nwaneri's transfer will also attract interest from Nigeria, with the Arsenal academy graduate remaining eligible to represent the Super Eagles despite his involvement with England's youth teams.

Born in London, Nwaneri is eligible to represent Nigeria through his father.

He has represented England from youth level through to the Under-21s and was also invited into Thomas Tuchel's senior England squad for a training camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

However, Nwaneri has not yet been permanently tied to England at senior international level, meaning Nigeria's interest in the highly-rated midfielder remains relevant.
