After the Premier League deadline day transfer window officially slammed shut, Liverpool left one door deliberately cracked for a potential ace in their pocket to kickstart 2027.
Liverpool midfield transfer target Lamine Camara was reportedly told to "wait” to join the Reds in 2027 after his all but sealed move to Stamford Bridge fell through at the tail end of this window.
TalkSPORT reporter Ben Jacobs said Liverpool informed Camara’s camp and AS Monaco that their interest could become active if the midfielder remained at the Ligue 1 club. Camara has already made 49 appearances for the Senegal national team.
The 22-year-old Senegalese star nearly joined Chelsea after the Blues agreed a $63 million deal with Monaco. The move broke down with hours in the window after Monaco was forced to pivot once Folarin Balogun’s proposed transfer to Everton also vanished.
"I am told to say to the camp of Camara, wait," Jacobs said before the deadline closed. "Wait to say to Monaco. Wait, because Liverpool don't want Lamine Camara. Now, they never explored it. Alexis Mac Allister is still at the club."
Jacobs informed Reds supporters that Liverpool told Camara that if he doesn't complete the move to Chelsea, Liverpool will potentially "show interest again in 2027."
Chelsea reportedly already had two bids rejected before eventually agreeing to terms for Camara. Monaco pulled out of the deal after the club wasn't willing to sanction Camara’s departure after Balogun’s failed medical stalled all moving parts of the deal.
Balogun's ongoing saga sent him back to the French club until at least January, despite a written agreement for his transfer having already been reached. The Team USA striker gained interest from top European clubs after scoring three goals during the 2026 World Cup.
Chelsea were enraged after they already allowed Enzo Fernandez to leave for Manchester City. Yet, they still allowed the player to leave due to their prior agreement despite having the chance to stop it.

All signs point to two Premier League clubs battling for Camara in 2027
Liverpool added Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, Ronald Araujo, Bradley Barcola, Lucca Brughmans and Samuel Martinez during the window while moving several familiar names out of Anfield.
Former Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate left on free transfers, while Curtis Jones joined Inter Milan. Harvey Elliott moved to Valencia on loan and Stefan Bajcetic joined Celta Vigo for an undisclosed fee.
Camara played in 24 Ligue 1 matches last season and scored three goals with four assists. He added six Champions League appearances before starting the new campaign with two full league matches.
The Reds are two games deep into the Premier League season with back-to-back draws against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.
