Barcelona had a busy final day of the 2026 summer transfer window, especially when it came to moving players on. The likes of Alvaro Cortes, Toni Fernandez and Guille Fernandez all departed, but the biggest mover was Marc Casado, who finally left after months of speculation – albeit not in the way that the club wanted.
Barcelona were very keen to sell Casado this summer in order to generate funds that would help their finances to be improved, and they had many offers on the table. Club in England, Germany and Saudi Arabia all expressed a strong interest, but the La Masia graduate was clear that his preference was to stay in Spain.
There was no La Liga club willing to come close to paying Barcelona’s €30m asking price, which is why they have been forced to settle for loaning out Casado. On deadline day, [he joined Deportivo A Coruna](https://x.com/FCBarcelona/status/2094908323493482902?s=20) for the 2026-27 season, with the Galicians reserving an option to buy that will be active until next summer.
The buy clause is valued at €30m, as confirmed by [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/oficial-marc-casado-cedido-deportivo-133829760). While this gives Deportivo a presential option to sign Casado next summer, it is almost certain that they decide against activating this – not only because they likely would not have the funds to spend, but also because the midfielder would only have a year left on his contract in 2027, meaning that Barcelona would be pressured to accept an offer not on their terms if they were to cash in.
It has been a good transfer window for Barcelona with the exception of not signing Julian Alvarez, but the situation with Casado will have frustrated them greatly. Next summer, there is every chance that they sell him for much less than €30m, which is why the loan to Deportivo does not make much sense, especially with the Catalans likely to be paying a decent percentage of his wages.
