Lamine Camara was reportedly told to ‘wait’ for Liverpool as his transfer to Chelsea collapsed on deadline day.
Despite Curtis Jones leaving Liverpool, the Reds have not signed a new midfielder this summer, with Trey Nyoni instead expected to play far more regularly this season.
The club do appear to be looking ahead, though, following the latest report from well-connected reporter Ben Jacobs.
The journalist explained on talkSPORT that Liverpool told Monaco’s Camara ‘to wait’ and that a deal is possible in 2027.

Chelsea thought they were bringing in the 22-year-old midfielder, but Monaco pulled out at the last minute from the transfer that would have seen Camara sign a six-year contract.
“Monaco still believe they can get €70 million (£60m) and they want to keep the player now,” journalist Jacobs said.
“Chelsea thought they were going to announce this evening on a six-year contract with a one-year extension option. The player was keen on the move.
“Liverpool Football Club made a call this evening, and more than one I am told, to say to the camp of Camara, ‘Wait’, to say to Monaco, ‘Wait’.”
While the Reds weren’t planning on signing the Senegal international this summer, they could move for him at a later date.

? "They said we will, potentially, be back for you in 2027 if you don't get your move."

The reporter explained: “Liverpool don’t want Camara now. They never explored it; Alexis Mac Allister is still at the club.
“But my understanding is that Liverpool said to Monaco, ‘Wait’. Liverpool said to Camara, ‘Wait’.
“Now, to be clear so this is not taken out of context, we are not saying Liverpool interfered in the deal relating to Chelsea.
“We are saying that, all day, Liverpool said to Monaco and Liverpool said to Camara, ‘If you don’t get your move – and it was not looking likely in the middle of the day – we will back for you potentially in 2027’.
“And that is a factor in this story, because Monaco’s belief is that they can get €70m.”

Monaco were simultaneously negotiating the fee they would receive from Everton for their striker, Folarin Balogun.
He was all set to join David Moyes’ side but had a late change of heart, as Sky Sports put it, to the frustration of both clubs.
Monaco were under pressure to sell this summer because they are operating with financial restrictions imposed by the DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog.
As a result, they have had payroll controls imposed upon them.
With the sales of Balogun and Camara not going through, they could be forced to sell in 2027, meaning the £60m price they set on Camara could come down as Liverpool get involved.
