A former Rangers star has sent a hilarious goodbye to Everton after sealing his Toffees transfer exit.
Nathan Patterson left Ibrox for the Premier League in January 2022 but his time has been hit by injury and lack of selection even amid issues in that department in Merseyside. It’s been confirmed on England’s deadline day that he has completed a move to Serie A’s Torino as he gets a chance to start afresh in a league where several Scotland internationals are currently.
In a recent press conference, Everton manager David Moyes accidentally called Patterson Craig, and it has not been lost on the Rangers academy graduate. He has signed off with an honest assessment of how his stint at the club but also by scoring out the name Craig and replacing it with his own.

Patterson wrote via Instagram: “To all the Toffees. Sometimes in life things don't go as planned. Nevertheless it was an honour to play for such a fantastic club and meet so many great people along the way. I always gave my best and pushed as hard as i could, even if things were going against me. I hope that came across. It goes without saying that i wish everyone at Everton all the best for the future. I hope it's a great season.”
The joke stems from a Moyes press conference in late August where he addressed the right-back situation with a gaffe. He said: “I think there were five or six managers before me trying to sign a right-back as well. I’m not the only one. We have identified quite a few right-backs we like and bid for a few we like.
“We’re right in there. Working to try and get one. We’ve got other people doing quite well. Jake O’Brien has done well for us there. Other people have filled in, we still have Craig Patterson. We have room to bring in a new right-back.”

Allowing the right-back to move on, Everton said in a statement: “Nathan Patterson has left Everton, signing for Serie A club Torino on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old full-back joined the Blues from Rangers in January 2022, playing 68 times for the Club across all competitions. Patterson made his Toffees debut in an FA Cup fifth-round victory over Boreham Wood in March 2022, and the following year, played 19 Premier League matches in his first full season on Merseyside.
“A highlight of that campaign arrived when the young Scot started in Everton’s emphatic 5-1 victory at Brighton & Hove Albion in May 2023, when Patterson excellently tamed tricky winger Kaoru Mitoma. On the international stage, the defender helped Scotland qualify for this summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, where he earned caps against Haiti, Morocco and Brazil.
