The final day of the 2026 summer transfer window was very busy for Barcelona, especially in regards to departures. Marc Casado left to join fellow La Liga side RC Deportivo on a season-long loan, while there were several permanent exits too.
Like Casado, Guille Fernandez also stayed in Spain to sign for Mallorca in a deal that has seen Barcelona retain a significant sell-on clause and a buy-back option for one of La Masia’s brightest talents. He wasn’t the only member of his family to depart on deadline day, as cousin Toni Fernandez also moved on – but rather than remain in his home country, he has joined Serie A side Venezia.
As per MD, Fernandez has joined Venezia on an initial loan, although it will almost certainly be made permanent. The teenager only needs to make three appearances for the Italians in order to trigger the buy clause in the agreement with Barcelona, who will receive €4m once it becomes active. Like with Guille, a percentage of future sale has also been retained, as well as the option to re-sign him in the future for a fixed price.
Cortes heads to Belgium for €3.5m
Also leaving Barcelona on deadline day was defender Alvaro Cortes. The 21-year-old made the decision to leave a few weeks ago after recognising that he would not be part of Hansi Flick’s plans in the first team, and he has ended up joining Belgian club Royal Antwerp.
As per MD, Barcelona have received €3.5m from the sale of Cortes, for whom they have also retained a significant sell-on clause. However, they do not have the option to buy him back from Antwerp, meaning that they do not have complete control over his future.
Regardless, Barcelona will surely continue to keep tabs on Cortes, and they will certainly do so with the Fernandez cousins, either of whom could return to the club at some stage.
