Liverpool could exploit Chelsea and Everton's deadline day disappointments by securing Lamine Camara from Monaco in January.
The Reds are understood to have identified Camara as a potential transfer target, but opted against making a move for the Monaco midfielder late in the window.
Instead, it was Premier League rivals Chelsea who sought to sign the playmaker, with the Blues appearing to have wrapped up his signature late on deadline day. However, once the deadline had passed, it emerged that the Camara deal had fallen through, leaving Chelsea furious with Monaco's conduct.
It's understood Monaco scuppered the deal, as it was only prepared to sanction the departure of either Camara or Folarin Balogun on deadline day.
The latter was on the verge of joining Everton, but overnight it was confirmed that the Balogun deal also broke down, meaning Camara could have been sold to Chelsea after all.
Nevertheless, that won't concern Liverpool too greatly, as it will look to pounce when the January window arrives by snapping up Camara from under Chelsea's noses. He's evidently a player who is valued by Liverpool, with reports suggesting the Reds even contacted Camara's representatives and asked him to wait for a move to Liverpool further down the line.
Liverpool had no plans to pursue permanent signings on deadline day, having already invested heavily in bringing Bradley Barcola to the club. Instead, according to talkSPORT, they informed Camara's representatives to be patient, as they would be willing to make an approach in 2027.

Whether Liverpool can navigate the first half of the campaign and remain competitive by the time January arrives is another matter entirely.
The Reds have already appeared vulnerable in midfield during the early stages of this season, and it's certainly an area Liverpool will need to strengthen in upcoming transfer windows.
It's understood that Liverpool attempted some transfer activity of their own on deadline day, though with limited success. Reports from France suggested that the six-time European champions contacted Chelsea to bring Malo Gusto in on loan.

The west London side weren't interested in entertaining a temporary deal and instead made it clear that any move for Gusto would need to be permanent. Needless to say, that didn't come to pass, meaning Andoni Iraola will have to make do with his current squad, at least until January comes around.
Liverpool face five fixtures before the international break, none of which can be regarded as straightforward. After travelling to Ipswich Town on Friday evening, the Reds welcome Atletico Madrid to Anfield, before a Premier League clash with Fulham.
A further home tie follows, as Tottenham visit for a Carabao Cup encounter. Liverpool then round off this demanding run of fixtures with an away trip to Bournemouth before the extended international break.
