The British transfer record has reached new heights following Enzo Fernandez's £125m deadline day move from Chelsea to Manchester City.
Premier League clubs continue to outspend the rest of world football and the eye-watering investment is showing no sign of slowing down.
Fernandez's move to the Etihad equalled the record fee set by Alexander Isak in 2025, with the midfielder becoming the most expensive footballer in Premier League history for a second time.
Fernandez is one of three players to have broken the British transfer record twice in the Premier League era.
Alan Shearer was the first footballer to hold that status twice, following his moves to Blackburn Rovers (1992) and Newcastle United (1996). After 260 goals in the Premier League for the two clubs combined, both can be pleased with their investment.
Rio Ferdinand was also British football's most expensive player twice. Leeds United signed Ferdinand from first club West Ham for £18m in 2000, before he crossed the Pennines for Manchester United for £29.1m two seasons later. On each occasion, Ferdinand became the world's most expensive defender.
