Manchester City have sanctioned a loan move for teenage sensation Jeremy Monga with the youngster joining Swansea City until the end of the season.
The 17-year-old arrived at the Etihad from Leicester City this summer in a £10million deal and subsequently travelled with the Blues first team squad on the pre-season tour of Asia. He had hoped to do enough in pre-season to stick with the first team squad and learn from the senior players, as fellow winger Ryan McAidoo is doing.
However, Monga hasn't been included in any of Enzo Maresca's Premier League squads and the Blues believe a switch to the Swans, who are top of the Championship, is the best option for his development.
The deal was announced on Wednesday morning despite the window officially closing at 11pm on Tuesday. But all the paperwork was lodged in time and the delay in confirming was understood to be down to Swansea's match against Watford on Tuesday night.
Monga made seven Premier League appearances at the age of 15, and backed that up with 27 in the Championship last season as he regularly turned out for Leicester even as they struggled. He had interest from a host of clubs this summer, including Arsenal, but ultimately rejected the Gunners to join City.
Speaking on City's summer tour, the teenager told the Manchester Evening News: "[Arsenal's interest] was very strong because it was very close to me going there. Very close. The main decision was probably the pathway and the club itself. They've been so successful that it was a no-brainer when City calls. I feel like to me personally I see myself at City more. I see myself in blue!
"[This summer] was more a time of reflection. After last season, thinking about what's next. Obviously once I heard City called in again it was really a no-brainer because it is such a successful club. It's every child's dream to win trophies and be at the top with the best."
