Liverpool’s deadline day didn’t prove to be as eventful as they refrained from adding to Andoni Iraola’s current squad for the 2026-27 campaign.
Bradley Barcola was the Reds’ last signing of the summer after he signed a long-term deal to move to Anfield from PSG.
However, ahead of the deadline, Liverpool were linked with a host of players such as Yankuba Minteh, Isamila Sarr and Lamine Camara.
Camara, in particular, generated a lot of chatter on deadline day as Chelsea agreed a deal to sign him before the deal was withdrawn at the last moment.
And now, Ben Jacobs revealed that the Reds made a call to the talented midfielder and asked him to stay put with the view of making a transfer in the future.
Liverpool tell Lamine Camara to wait
Monaco pulled the plug on Camara’s departure at the eleventh hour, much to the disgust of Chelsea.
The Blues have now sold Enzo Fernandez without a replacement, which will hurt their chances under Xabi Alonso this season.
And it appears as if the Reds are surely keeping a watchful eye on Camara over a future transfer, as confirmed by Jacobs.
He said via talkSPORT’s YouTube channel, “Liverpool Football Club made a call this evening and more than one to say to the camp of Lamine Camara to wait, to say to Monaco to wait, because Liverpool don’t want Camara now.
“They never explored it. Alexis Mac Allister is still at the club, but my understanding is that Liverpool said to Monaco wait, Liverpool said to Camara wait. Liverpool didn’t interfere in the deal relating to Chelsea.
“We are saying all Liverpool did was tell Monaco and Lamine Camara to wait: if you don’t get your move. We will be back potentially in 2027.”
We’re not sure what the logic is here, as Liverpool need a midfielder now and had the money to spend on deadline day, so what’s the point in making a player wait when he was available to move before the deadline?
It can’t be anything about not having a non-homegrown spot because it’s east to de-register players who are out of favour like Wataru Endo or Federico Chiesa, while the same could be said about injured players like Hugo Ekitike and Conor Bradley.
Baffling, to say the least, but if anyone has any theories, we’re happy to hear them out and educate ourselves.
