Liverpool have made their first transfer move for Lucca Brughmans, and the teenage Genk goalkeeper is now close to becoming a Red, as per the latest news.

As reported by ESPN, Liverpool are closing in on a deal worth about £30M for Brughmans. The 18-year-old goalkeeper has become a major target as the Reds plan for the future. The move also shows that the club are ready to spend heavily on a young player before he reaches his peak. Talks have moved forward quickly and Liverpool are working towards a fixed fee of about €33M, with another €2M possible through add-ons.

Mamardashvili could change the plan
The future of Mamardashvili is now a big part of this deal. The Georgian goalkeeper is Liverpool’s current No. 2 behind Alisson Becker. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool later reached a verbal agreement with Genk for Brughmans. Romano reported a total package of €35M and said the keeper was expected to join in 2027. He also said Brughmans would return to Genk on loan, unless Mamardashvili leaves the Reds on deadline day.
This means the move is not just about signing a young goalkeeper, it is also about timing. Liverpool already have a clear first choice in Alisson, and they also have Mamardashvili. Because of that, there is no clear need to rush Brughmans into the team. The young Belgian’s immediate future depends on what happens with Mamardashvili.
