The fallout from [Everton](https://readeverton.com/)‘s disastrous end to the transfer window has continued, with influential supporter group The 1878s announcing it is standing down “for the foreseeable future”.
The group has become a familiar part of matchdays at Hill Dickinson Stadium, producing the flags, banners and tifos that have helped create the atmosphere at Everton’s new home.
**But following a chaotic end to the transfer window, The 1878s has decided to stop organising its pre-match displays for the time being.**
“Like the rest of our fanbase, we are utterly disappointed and disgusted with how this transfer window has gone, especially the end of it,” the group said.
It is another indication of the strength of feeling among Evertonians following the final few days of the window.
The Everton Fans’ Forum has also issued a strongly-worded statement questioning the club’s planning, recruitment and decision-making.
“We are demanding competence, preparation and accountability,” it said.
BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty reports that a petition calling for chief executive Angus Kinnear’s resignation has also been set up.
The criticism comes after David Moyes was left with only 18 senior outfield players and just one recognised centre-forward in Thierno Barry.
Everton did bring Jack Grealish back on loan and sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles from Lyon on Deadline Day, but the proposed £40m arrival of Folarin Balogun collapsed following a medical issue and subsequent change of heart from the striker.
The decision by The 1878s feels particularly significant.
Moyes has previously described the group’s work at Hill Dickinson Stadium as “unbelievable”, while its displays have quickly become part of matchday at Everton’s new home.
The group has stressed that supporters should continue backing Moyes and his players for 90 minutes.
For now, though, the flags and displays are being put away.
And that is a very visible sign of just how badly the last few days have gone down.
