**[Everton](https://readeverton.com/)ians have had plenty to say since the transfer window closed. Understandably so**.
Now it would be good to hear from the club.
Not a statement attempting to explain every twist and turn of the Folarin Balogun saga. Transfers go wrong. Medicals throw up problems. Players change their minds.
That happens.
And Balogun ultimately decided for himself that he didn’t want to complete the move.
But this isn’t really just about Balogun.
It’s about how Everton came to be so reliant on signing one striker, so late in a transfer window that had been open for 79 days.
It’s about why Beto was allowed to join Fiorentina before his replacement was safely in the room.
And it’s about how David Moyes, having repeatedly and publicly said he needed more players, has ended up with just 18 senior outfield players and one recognised centre-forward.
Those feel like perfectly reasonable questions.
The Everton Fans’ Forum has already called for “competence, preparation and accountability” and says supporters deserve a clear explanation of what went wrong.
The Fan Advisory Board has now called on chief executive Angus Kinnear to meet openly with supporter representatives, saying the moment requires “transparency, dialogue and leadership”.
That seems entirely reasonable.
Only days before the window closed, Kinnear said Everton’s squad was “in a good place” and explained that the club aimed to have the best player it could get in each position by the deadline.
Clearly, things didn’t turn out that way.
Nobody needs to be thrown under the bus, and nobody needs to reveal the confidential details of transfer negotiations.
But something from the club would help.
The Friedkin Group has done plenty since arriving to suggest Everton were finally moving away from the chaos that became so familiar in previous years.
That’s partly why the last few days have been so disappointing.
Evertonians have bought into the new stadium, backed Moyes and his players and, in huge numbers, bought into the idea that the club was heading somewhere better.
After a transfer window that ended as this one did, they deserve to hear from the people running it (or should that be ruining it).
Not spin. Not excuses.
Just an explanation. A proper one.
