Liverpool announced the signing of young goalkeeper Luca Brughmans in what turned out to be one of the most surprising deals of deadline day.
The links came out of nowhere and the transfer was done in no time as the Reds agreed to pay a fee believed to be in the region of €35m for the Belgian goalkeeper.
Brughmans will spend the current season back on loan at Genk and will join the Reds for pre-season ahead of the start of the 2027-28 campaign.
And David Lynch admits his recruitment is proof that Liverpool got the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili wrong.

The Reds agreed a €35m deal to sign the Georgian goalkeeper in the summer of 2024 but he only arrived last summer.
Since then, he has played second fiddle to Alisson Becker, but even in the chances he got, he didn’t really set the world alight with his performances.
Mamardashvili conceded a lot of savable goals and to make matters worse, he didn’t look comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Before deadline day, there were reports that Nottingham Forest could sign the former Valencia goalkeeper, which is when Liverpool pounced for Brughmans and swiftly agreed a deal.

And now, Lynch feels the Reds may have inadvertently accepted that recruiting Mamardashvili was a mistake in the first place.

Mamardashvili will stay until next summer, but don’t be surprised to see Liverpool offload him if the right offer comes along.
