Barcelona have made a strong start to the 2026-27 La Liga season, winning all three of their matches by an aggregate score of 12-2. However, they have been matched thus far by Real Madrid, who also have a 100% record.
After losing out to Barcelona in the previous two league campaigns, Real Madrid have tasked Jose Mourinho with making them top dogs in Spain again. Many expect the title race to be much closer than it has been, with one of them being former Blaugrana striker Robert Lewandowski, although he told [Diario AS](https://as.com/futbol/internacional/el-real-madrid-ahora-es-mas-fuerte-con-mou-f202609-n/) that he still believes his old side will come out on top.
**“Real Madrid are now stronger with the new signings and with José (Mourinho). My feeling is that after two years without winning anything, their mentality is important and they can be very strong this season, but I’m always with Barcelona.”**
Lewandowski, [who left in July to join MLS side Chicago Fire](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/robert-lewandowski-officially-joins-chicago-fire-after-barcelona-exit/), also believes that 2027 could be the time that Barcelona end their frustrating wait to win the Champions League, noting that Hansi Flick’s squad is much more equipped for European glory than they have been in the previous few seasons.
**“This stage for the team can be different from last season because it has many players with quality and new signings… I think for Barcelona the Champions League is a dream, but it is a moment in which they have players who two or three years ago were very young, and now they have experience. Eight players who have been world champions. It’s something special for them, but also for Spain. In the end, I hope that Barcelona will try to win and can celebrate the Champions League.**
**“Barça are one of the favourites with two-three more teams. In Europe it doesn’t matter how you play at the beginning of the season, but to maintain the level the rest of the year. I hope that in the end we can talk about Barcelona and how many titles they have won.”**
