Jordan Henderson isn’t the only former Liverpool midfielder Chelsea could field this season, with the Blues considering another veteran from Jurgen Klopp’s glory days at Anfield.
Chelsea’s deadline day was chaotic, leaving Xabi Alonso’s side short in midfield. A deal to sign Lamine Camara was agreed, but Monaco pulled the plug at the eleventh hour.

Chelsea could have stopped Enzo Fernandez’s record-breaking £125million move to Manchester City but ultimately allowed the transfer to go through.
The Blues have since made contact with former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum over a potential free transfer.
The 35-year-old is available as a free agent, with Chelsea showing a willingness to sign experienced players such as Danny Welbeck and Henderson.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea will not sign Wijnaldum. Fabrizio Romano posted on X: “Chelsea will not sign Georginio Wijnaldum. Club currently playing down all reports about the Dutch midfielder.”
Since leaving Liverpool in 2021, Wijnaldum endured difficult spells at Paris Saint-Germain and AS Roma before moving to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq.
The Dutchman left Al-Ettifaq as a free agent this summer and remains without a club. The Netherlands international made 101 appearances for Al-Ettifaq, scored 38 goals and provided 17 assists across all competitions.
Wijnaldum is best remembered for his time at Anfield, where he won the Premier League and Champions League alongside new Chelsea signing Jordan Henderson.
Chelsea showed no hesitation in splashing the cash during the summer transfer window, shattering records as they rebuilt the squad under Xabi Alonso.
Morgan Rogers became the club’s all-time record signing after completing a blockbuster £117million move from Aston Villa earlier in the window.
Chelsea have also made a flying start to the new campaign, securing back-to-back Premier League victories over Fulham and Brighton.
Alonso’s side now face a major test of their title credentials when they take on defending champions Arsenal in a highly anticipated London derby on Sunday.
