Tri-national defender whose father played for Nigeria joins Celtic on loan from Chelsea
With a statement on the official website, Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have confirmed the signing of Chelsea youngster Landon Emenalo on a season-long loan.
The 18-year-old left-back, who is the son of former Super Eagles defender Michael Emenalo, joins Celtic after developing through the academy systems of Monaco and Chelsea.
Emenalo has been a key player for Chelsea’s Under-21 side and has also featured in first-team squads for the Premier League club.
His move to Celtic will provide him with an opportunity to continue his development with the Scottish champions.
Landon was born in Tucson, Arizona, making him eligible to represent the United States, while his involvement with England’s youth teams also gives him eligibility to represent England.
He is also eligible to represent Nigeria through his father, Michael Emenalo, who represented the Super Eagles during his international career.
Michael Emenalo represented Nigeria at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and played primarily as a left-back, the same position occupied by his son.
The former Super Eagles defender made 14 appearances for Nigeria and was part of the squad that reached the knockout stages of the 1994 World Cup in the United States.
The Chelsea academy product will now spend the 2026/27 season with Celtic as he continues his development in Scottish football.
