**As more details emerge around [Everton](https://readeverton.com/)‘s chaotic and ultimately unsuccessful Deadline Day, it has been revealed that the Blues had a huge late bid rejected for Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli.**
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Everton offered €43m – around £37million – for the Morocco international.
The proposal was reportedly worth €35m up front with another €8m in potential add-ons, but Betis refused to sell.
Betis president Ángel Haro has since confirmed that the Spanish club had the possibility of making a “great sale” involving Abde on the final day of the window.
However, Betis demanded the player’s €60m release clause and ultimately decided to keep him.
This revelation adds another level to Everton’s frantic final hours.
The Blues had already sold Iliman Ndiaye and Beto, while moves for Folarin Balogun, Joshua Zirkzee and Tammy Abraham all ultimately came to nothing.
Abde would not have solved David Moyes’ shortage at centre-forward, but the 24-year-old would have provided another proven attacking option following Ndiaye’s departure.
The size of the reported offer also suggests Everton were prepared to commit heavily to another attacking signing late in the window.
Unfortunately for Moyes, it became another ambitious deadline-day move that ended with the player staying exactly where he was.
