**As Liverpool prepare for a busy September, starting with Ipswich Town on Friday, the Reds have received a significant injury boost regarding Joe Gomez.**
The summer transfer window is done and dusted, with Andoni Iraola now making do with the squad available to him until January at the earliest.
Liverpool are without plenty of long-term injury victims currently, with the likes of Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Hugo Ekitike not playing for many months.
Gomez is another player who has been unavailable so far this season, having picked up a muscle issue during pre-season, but according to [DaveOCKop](https://www.daveockop.com/latest-news/joe-gomez-nearing-return-from-injury/#google_vignette), that is about to change.
The 29-year-old is “progressing with his rehabilitation and is nearing a return to full first team training”, and there is even an “outside chance” that he could make the squad for Ipswich away on Friday night.
Still, if that doesn’t happen, “there is confidence he will be available” for the visit of Fulham in the Premier League on September 12th.
**Should Joe Gomez go to right-back when he returns?**

It would be a surprise to see Gomez feature against Ipswich, but his return to the fold is a big boost for Iraola, who needs as many defensive options as possible.
Jeremie Frimpong’s struggles at right-back have been well-documented, and it feels like a no-brainer to replace him with Gomez once the latter is fully fit again.
Granted, right-back isn’t his strongest role, but he can bring physicality and solidity to the position, both of which Frimpong is failing to provide this season.
Bradley should still be seen as Liverpool’s first-choice right-back option, assuming he rids himself of injury problems, but for now, Gomez feels like the sensible choice.
Without being too harsh on Frimpong, who is giving his all but simply not looking at the level required, playing Ronald Araujo at right-back would arguably make more sense, too.
Hopefully, the Dutchman silences his critics and begins to thrive, but at the moment, he is looking like the poorest signing of an unconvincing summer window in 2025.
As for Gomez, the injuries will always hamper him, as they have throughout his career, but having him back is great news and will only aid Liverpool’s squad depth.
