Martial offered to Everton in shock transfer twist two years after Man United exit

Anthony Martial signs for Monterrey

Everton have been offered the chance to sign former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, talkSPORT understands.

Martial is a free agent after a stint in Mexico with Monterrey came to an end after just 20 games earlier this year.

The Frenchman would consider a return to the Premier League, two years after leaving Man United for AEK Athens.

The 30-year-old scored 63 goals and provided 33 assists for the Red Devils across 209 games and nine years at Old Trafford.

Everton are desperate for a striker after a deal for Folarin Balogun fell through in the final moments of Deadline Day.

Martial's post-Man United career

Martial has struggled to reach the previous level of his career in the Premier League since leaving Man United.

With AEK Athens in Greece, he only scored nine goals and provided two assists in 24 appearances for the club.

Then, with Monterrey, he scored just once in 20 games, with him only netting 10 goals since departing English football in 2024.

Injuries plagued his time at United and that was no different in Mexico either, as he suffered a nasty dislocated shoulder.

He was stretchered off in February due to the injury and would go on to play his final game for the club in March.

Martial was once one of the highest-rated young players in world football, arriving in Manchester for £36million in 2015.

However, after failing to reach the expected heights at Old Trafford, his career has taken a nosedive since his exit.

Everton desperate for a striker

But could Martial's career be revived by a return to the Premier League with Everton, who have been offered his services?

The Toffees are in desperate need of a striker after the sale of Beto left them with just Thierno Barry up front.

Balogun was set to join the club from Monaco on Deadline Day. He was already in Liverpool to complete the move.

However, in the final moments of the window, the USA international decided to pull out of the transfer after issues were flagged in his medical.

David Moyes made late offers for Man United's Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa's Tammy Abraham, but both were rejected.

That left Everton having to go into the next few months of the Premier League season with one striker - unless they can make use of the free agent market.

The Toffees ironically take on United this Sunday at Hill Dickinson Stadium following the offer of Martial.
