“Feel much better”–Chelsea player provides fitness update and reveals expectations

Marco Palestra is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Chelsea and has opened up about the spell so far.

For quite a while, the wing-back seemed set to join Inter Milan. They were pushing to sign him and Sport Witness covered how several other English clubs were also in the race for his signature.

Just when the Nerazzurri were about to close a deal, Chelsea jumped in and reached an agreement with the player and Atalanta.

The talent featured in pre-season regularly for Xabi Alonso’s side but fitness problems have stopped him from playing in the league.

Palestra still a few days away

The ex-Atalanta player was present at the Gran Gala del Calcio ceremony on Wednesday evening. He was asked some questions by Sky Italia, as he also spoke about his fitness.

The Italian said he is better but still a few days away from being back.

He said – via Tuttomercatoweb: “l’m fine, it’s still a few days away, but I feel much better.”

Palestra also opened up about the Chelsea experience so far, revealing he is enjoying life, although doesn’t expect to start regularly.

“From day one, Coach Xabi Alonso and my teammates have made me feel great. A lot has changed, but I like everything here. Me being a starter? In a team like this, there are no setbacks.”

The versatile wing-back also spoke about his ambitions with the national team, who are desperate to turn things around.

“What I can assure you is that we all had in mind to aspire to great things. We have a wonderful group, and I’m sure that by working together, we can achieve great things.”

A matter of time

Since the 21-year-old played in pre-season, there should be no concerns about his suitability to Xabi Alonso’s side. He probably already knows his role.

His versatile nature suits the Spaniard’s system. At Bayer Leverkusen, it was clear Alonso prefers multi-functional players. He also used wing-backs that bombed up and down the pitch.

Palestra’s athletic and physical traits match that and Chelsea fans should be excited for what is to come.
