**Arsenal can recall Ethan Nwaneri from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.**
Writing for [_Caught Offside_](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2026/09/03/exclusive-arsenal-have-plan-place-for-ethan-nwaneri/), Romano said that the Gunners wanted to ensure they could bring the 19-year-old back to the Emirates midway through the season if needed:
“They will have a specific clause to make it happen, and recall clause included in the deal.”
“So, Arsenal will maintain control on Ethan Nwaneri in January, and then next summer will be able to decide whatever they want for one of the best talents around, produced by Arsenal.”

Following his nightmare loan spell at Marseille, where he started just four times in the space of six months, the Premier League champions needed to make sure that there would not be a repeat of that experience.
If Nwaneri doesn’t play on a regular basis between now and January, they have the power to bring him back without needing the approval of Dortmund.
Saying all that, though, there is a decent chance that the teenager will get plenty of minutes. The serious knee injury sustained by Giannis Konstantelias means that the Bundesliga side need a replacement for this season, and they have certainly got a good one in Nwaneri.
