Liverpool have been handed a major lifeline to bolster their squad this season after Deadline Day drama means that Lamine Camara can still be a target.
The Reds had a relatively quiet summer transfer window after key stars like Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate departed on free transfers. At the same time, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott also moved to Inter Milan and Valencia, respectively.
Bradley Barcola was the marquee arrival, joining from Paris Saint-Germain in a £123m deal, while Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo have also arrived to bolster Andoni Iraola's squad.
But despite being in desperate need of a defensive midfielder to come in for the last few windows, the position was once again ignored while the market was open, leaving the Spanish boss with Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Trey Nyoni and Wataru Endo as his only senior options.
Since losing Fabinho to Saudi Arabia in 2023, the club has been heavily linked with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Martin Zubimendi and others in that role, but no moves have materialised. But after Chelsea's move for Lamine Camara ultimately collapsed on Deadline Day, despite a deal being agreed with Monaco, it has now emerged that Liverpool are ready to push for his arrival.
While speaking on talkSPORT, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs revealed that Anfield chiefs made a late call to the player and his camp about a move.
“Liverpool Football Club made a call this evening, and more than one, to say to the camp of Lamine Camara to wait, to say to Monaco to wait, because Liverpool don’t want Camara now, they never explored it," he said.
"Alexis Mac Allister is still at the club, but my understanding is that Liverpool said to Monaco wait, Liverpool said to Camara wait. Liverpool didn’t interfere in the deal relating to Chelsea.
"We are saying all Liverpool did was tell Monaco and Lamine Camara to wait; if you don’t get your move… we will be back potentially in 2027.”

Iraola Can Be Saved by Top Midfield Signing

With the way Iraola likes to play, the midfield area has been an issue for Liverpool in their opening games of the season. The Reds have been held to 2-2 draws against both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, with Jamie Carragher criticising the setup.
But with the potential arrival of Camara, and his defensive discipline, it could be a perfect way to save Iraola from coming under unnecessary pressure and also strengthen the team in the same breath.
When speaking to the media earlier in the summer, Monaco boss Filipe Luis described the Senegal international as 'one of the best midfielders in the world', and now Liverpool have essentially been given the chance to get a deal done.
"I don't want to talk about him too much, because I know a lot of clubs would love to have him in their squad, and he is very important to me. He has that quality on the ball, covers a lot of ground, he is truly top class! I am really happy to have him, and he is going to play a key role in the team."
Chelsea were left furious after missing out on Camara on Deadline Day, and now Liverpool could be able to get a deal done to ensure they miss out on him permanently.
