Paul Scholes believes Cole Palmer could eventually leave Chelsea to join Manchester United, with the former England international predicting a future move to Old Trafford further down the line in the midfielder’s career.
Palmer has established himself as one of the most important players at Chelsea since making the move to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City. The attacking midfielder has quickly developed into a key figure for the Blues and remains one of the most highly regarded young talents in English football.
However, Scholes believes Palmer could ultimately return to Manchester, this time with United, despite his strong standing at Chelsea.
The former United midfielder’s prediction is likely to generate plenty of discussion among supporters of both clubs. Palmer has previously spent time in Manchester during his development with City’s academy, but a move to United would represent a major change given his status as a Chelsea star
‘Looking back, United should have a sniff definitely, but we’re talking about rivals,’ Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football when asked about Palmer’s initial move from City to Chelsea.
‘He’s a Manchester United fan, but were City really going to sell to United? I don’t think so, and why would you?
The 24-year-old has become central to Chelsea’s attacking play and possesses the creativity and personality required to influence matches at the highest level.
Losing him to Manchester United would be particularly painful because of the rivalry between the two clubs. It would also represent a major sporting setback if Palmer remains one of Chelsea’s best performers for years to come.
From Manchester United‘s perspective, however, it is easy to understand why Scholes could imagine such a move. Palmer is a player capable of transforming an attack, and signing an established Premier League star of his quality would represent a huge statement of intent.
For now, there is no reason to believe Palmer is preparing to leave CHELSEA. His immediate future remains at Stamford Bridge, where he will be expected to continue developing into one of the Premier League’s leading attacking players.
