Andoni Iraola has revealed Liverpool passed up the chance to recruit more players during the summer transfer window - but has insisted he’s happy with the signings made by the club.
The Reds made four new additions to Iraola’s squad for the 2026/27 season, with Bradley Barcola, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo joining Jeremy Jacquet, who was signed back in February before completing his move to Anfield in July.
Deals have also been completed for young defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe and goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, both of whom will spend the campaign out on loan before reporting back to Merseyside next year.
Although Liverpool broke the bank to finally get Barcola’s signing over the line, verdicts on the club’s transfer business have been mixed among fans and pundits, many of whom have bemoaned the lack of signings in certain areas.
No additions were made at right-back or in midfield, two areas which have already been identified as problem areas this season, while an out-and-out replacement for Mohamed Salah on the right wing has not been secured, with the Reds having a surplus of players more suited to the left-hand side.
Speaking ahead of his side’s game against Ipswich on Friday, and for the first time since the transfer window closed, Iraola was asked about how he felt about the club’s business, with the Liverpool boss hinting that he would have liked more additions in other areas.

“I'm very happy with all the signings we made,” Iraola told a press conference on Thursday. “I think three, or four signings with Jeremy, I’m very happy with all the signings.
“I know the next question is ‘do you want more signings in other positions?’ At the end, the club has decided those signings that we’ve done are the ones that will improve our team, improve our position.
“There were other options that we decided not to take for different reasons, sometimes sporting because they don’t improve what you have, sometimes it is economical reasons, it didn’t make sense in terms of the market to do those movements.

“But I'm happy now that I know what we have. I have a lot of quality in the team. Now is the moment for the players and me to give it all they have.”
Barcola’s arrival at Anfield was finally confirmed just a day before the window shut, with Liverpool striking a $166 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain after weeks of speculation. The winger could be in line to make his debut on Friday, with Iraola set to make a late decision on his involvement.
"I see him in a good place. He has trained for us, it's true he hasn't had minutes in pre-season,” Iraola said.
“He has been training, and it's a decision we have to make. But we have to consider he hasn't had minutes in pre-season games."
