Shumaira Mheuka has signed a new Chelsea deal and joined Celtic Park on loan this season. As per the latest transfer news, Chelsea have sent the striker to Scotland for regular first-team football.
Mheuka signs new long-term Chelsea deal
The young striker has signed a new deal that keeps him at Chelsea until 2031. He joined the Chelsea academy at just 13 years old and slowly rose through the youth teams. Handing a long contract to a highly rated teenager is common practice at big clubs, since it removes uncertainty over a player’s future. It also protects the club’s investment and stops rival clubs from circling for a cut-price deal. Locking in the deal before the loan move keeps the Blues firmly in control of his next steps.
As reported by Chelsea’s official website, Shumaira Mheuka has already played nine senior games for the Chelsea first team. His debut came in a UEFA Conference League win away at Astana in Kazakhstan in December 2024. Playing in Europe at such a young age shows real trust from the coaching staff. His path to that debut ran through the academy and then the Under-21 team, a steady rise, not a rushed one. Nine senior games by the age of eighteen give him a solid base to build on at Celtic this season.

Mheuka shines at Under-21 level before loan move
Before this move, Shumaira Mheuka had an excellent season with the Chelsea Under-21 team. He led the side as captain to a first-place finish in their league. He was also named Player of the Season for 2025/26 in that youth competition. In that same season, he scored twenty goals in just twenty-one matches, a return few strikers his age can match. Premier League 2 is a demanding league for young strikers, which makes that scoring record even more impressive.
Celtic can give him that kind of test right away. The Scottish champions have won all three league games this term as they defend their Premiership title. A move to a title-chasing side with real momentum should help Mheuka settle in fast. From a tactical view, regular first-team minutes should sharpen his movement and finishing under real pressure. Facing physical, experienced defenders week to week is a different challenge to youth football.
Celtic add two more faces alongside Shumaira Mheuka
Mheuka is not the only new arrival at Celtic Park this summer. The club also brought in goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and fellow Chelsea youngster Landon Emenalo on loan deals of their own. Johnstone, 33, joins from Wolves and will compete with Finland international Viljami Sinisalo for the number one spot. The former England goalkeeper brings senior Premier League experience that Celtic’s back line can lean on.
Landon Emenalo, also eighteen years old, arrives to give the squad cover at left-back behind the more experienced Kieran Tierney. He made fourteen appearances in Premier League 2 for Chelsea last term and set up three goals in that spell. Together, the three arrivals cover three different needs for Celtic, the goal, left-back, and the attack. For Chelsea, the real value works the other way round. Mheuka’s progress in Scotland this season could shape his path back into the first team at Stamford Bridge.
