Manchester City pushing to sign Arsenal alum Echegini on WSL deadline day

Women's Super League champions Manchester City have reportedly made a late move for Nigeria international Jennifer Echegini ahead of the summer transfer window closing on Thursday night.

According to Sky Sports, the Citizens are still pushing to sign the Super Falcons midfielder despite Paris Saint-Germain rejecting offers from the English side.

Echegini is a product of the Arsenal academy and also had spells with fellow London clubs Charlton Athletic and Millwall Lionesses during the formative years of her career.

Paris Saint-Germain do not want to sell the Nigerian because she is considered a key member of the squad.

Just yesterday, she went the distance as the Parisians thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 to qualify for the league phase of the UEFA Women's Champions League, providing a crucial game-winning assist in the 95th minute.

Echegini has been on the books of PSG since January 2024 when she joined the capital club from Italian giants Juventus.

Last year, the 25-year-old scored the winning goal as Nigeria came from behind to beat Morocco 3-2 in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations final.

Echegini has one year left on her contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
