Why Federico Dimarco needs to be Inter's leader for years to come

Serie A side Inter saw Federico Dimarco draw links with a move to Barcelona throughout the summer transfer window.
The player, on Wednesday, made comments suggesting that a renewal at the Nerazzurri is being delayed and he has been wanting to stay beyond the 2027 deadline for a while.
Calciomercato look at the situation in detail, noting that the two parties have actually already agreed a unilateral option for extension until 2028. This doesn’t mean the Italian’s long-term future is secure already, especially since Barcelona have been lurking in the last few weeks.
The growing feeling is that the length of the renewal isn’t a problem anymore. It is about the money on offer, with the wing-back currently earning €4 million per season.
It is a situation which can’t be underestimated, despite the player’s desire, considering the Oaktree ownership’s delicate way of handling contracts. The next contract is likely to be the last major one of Dimarco’s career and he is very keen on spending those years at Inter.
But with Piero Ausilio leaving and being replaced by Dario Baccin, it remains to be seen how the contract situation evolves. Ideally, Inter should be desperate – knowing Barcelona could be lying in wait, but so far, there has been no decisive approach.
