Liverpool’s squad is still short in a few areas despite signing four players during the summer transfer window.
While they are well covered in attack after the arrivals of Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz, it goes without saying that they could do well with another body or two in midfield, especially after Curtis Jones’ departure.
At right-back, the Reds are once again in a spot of bother as Conor Bradley is injured, while Jeremie Frimpong continues to blow hot and cold in that position.
And ahead of the game against Ipswich Town, Andoni Iraola has suggested that Dom Szoboszlai could well continue in that role.
Szoboszlai told he can play right-back for Liverpool
Last season, Szoboszlai filled in at right-back more than a handful of times as the Reds didn’t have any other options.
This summer, they were expected to strengthen in that position, but somehow, that wasn’t the case.
And now, Iraola feels Szoboszlai can continue playing in that position, although one of Alexis Mac Allister or Trey Nyoni would have to take his place in midfield.
“Challenge in the squad now is we don’t have Conor Bradley there at right-back,” said Iraola in his pre-match press conference.
“That’s why I value Dom [Szoboszlai] at right-back as he can play there. Versatility in the player helps us go through the moments when we have injuries.
“In midfield we have good numbers. Now it’s a matter of getting the right calls from myself.

“I’m finding now the best combinations and we are going through a period now where we will play a lot of games and we’ll have a chance to see the options we have and the combinations we have. It’s a matter of coaching.”
Two games into the new season, and our most reliable midfielder is already being soft-launched as a right-back? We’re personally not against the Hungarian playing in that role – in fact, his skillset actually suits the position.
What’s hard to digest is that they had enough time to buy a right-back, but that never happened. And if Szoboszlai was viewed as a right-back option, at least another body could have been recruited in midfield.
