Inter left-back Federico Dimarco has spoken publicly about rumors linking him to a transfer to FC Barcelona. Speaking at Serie A’s awards gala, where he won the MVP honor for last season, the Italian said “it’s always nice to be linked with big clubs.”

Despite rumors, the transfer did not go through in the recently closed summer window.

“You already know my story at Inter; I’ve been here for many years—I grew up here,” he said.

However, Dimarco’s current contract is due to expire next year. He would be one of the hottest free agents should he hit the market.

“As for the renewal, we haven’t discussed it yet; I had expected it to be finalized, given how last season ended, but we will soon have the opportunity to talk about it,” he said.

Barcelona reportedly offered a swap deal involving Alejandro Balde, a younger left-back, for Dimarco, but Inter refused, saying the player was not for sale. Inter’s #1 priority in the transfer market right now is said to retain Dimarco.

Players are allowed to negotiate with other clubs and sign a pre-contract 6 months before their contract expires. If his deal expires in June as has been reported, Barcelona would be able to negotiate a free transfer with Dimarco in January 2027.
