The Brazilian has completed his move from Arsenal to Al-Hilal, bringing an end to his time in north London after falling out of the starting picture.
Gabriel Martinelli has completed his move from Arsenal to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, ending seven years in North London.
The Brazil international joined Arsenal from Ituano in 2019 as an 18-year-old and leaves having established himself as a regular across several different versions of Mikel Arteta's side.
His departure had been developing during the closing weeks of the transfer window.
Martinelli has been absent from Arsenal's opening competitive squads of the new season and Arteta confirmed before the trip to Aston Villa that discussions were taking place over the forward's future.
“Everybody knows and recognises how much we love Gabi,” Arteta said.
“Whatever the outcome is, it will be because everybody agrees to that.”
Al-Hilal have now completed the deal, bringing Martinelli's Arsenal career to an end the summer after he helped the club win the Premier League and finished as the Gunners' top scorer in the Champions League.
Gabriel Martinelli Leaves Arsenal After Seven Years
Arsenal signed Martinelli from Brazilian club Ituano in July 2019.
He scored on his first competitive start for the Gunners in the Carabao Cup, going on to reach double figures during his debut season despite being just 18 at the time.
A serious knee injury interrupted his progress the following year, but Martinelli eventually worked his way back into the side and became a regular on Arsenal's left.
His best Premier League goalscoring season came in 2022/23, when he scored 15 times as Arsenal challenged Manchester City for the title.
Martinelli has played a significant part over his time at the Gunners, competing with Leandro Trossard for minutes on the left of Arteta's attack, he played his part in Arsenal winning their first Premier League trophy in 22 years, whilst taking them to their first Champions League final in 20 years.
Martinelli leaves under unique circumstances amongst Arsenal's attack. Trossard left for Besiktas, with Arsenal subsequently signing Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. Whilst Eberechi Eze can also operate from the left, Arsenal have been left without a replacement for Martinelli's absence, with unsuccessful pursuits of both Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior through the summer window.
Arteta Confirmed Talks Over Martinelli's Future
Rumours over Martinelli's future had circulated for much of the summer, but the clearest indication that his time at Arsenal could be coming to an end arrived before the trip to Aston Villa.
The Brazilian had left training early and, when asked about the situation, Arteta described it as a “personal situation” which Arsenal were dealing with.
The manager also confirmed that he had spoken directly to Martinelli.
Arteta did not say at that stage that the forward would leave, but his answer made clear that a decision was being discussed between the relevant parties.
“Whatever the outcome is, it will be because everybody agrees to that,” he said.
Al-Hilal subsequently moved to complete a permanent transfer before the end of the summer window.
Martinelli leaves Arsenal having spent almost all of his senior European career at Emirates Stadium.
He was already at the club when Arteta replaced Unai Emery in December 2019 and went on to become a regular during Arsenal's return to the Champions League and eventual Premier League title success.
There were periods when his position in the side looked secure and others when he competed directly for his place.
Seven years after arriving from Ituano, Martinelli leaves with an FA Cup and Premier League winners' medal and a substantial number of appearances across the Premier League and Champions League.
